Public Service Campaigns - NAMI Coastal VA
I joined the public service campaigns class after an old professor asked me to register for it. I was hesitant at first because I did not have much experience with public relations and intro to PR was a prerequisite. However, he assured me that because I am a dedicated student I would be fine. The class involves being matched with a nonprofit organization and acting as a sort of PR intern for the entire semester.
After a dinner meeting various nonprofits, I matched with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Coastal Virginia organization. NAMI – a non-profit organization – is concerned with educating and supporting individuals with a mental illness as well as their families. I was attracted to NAMI not only because of my background in psychology, but also because I believe the need for mental health support is more prevalent now than before.
Some of my favorite pics from my time with NAMI
Me working the table at the Norfolk Admirals game. I handed out information about NAMI and sold the llamas.
This was the same night. The Admirals dyed the ice in green support of NAMI as green is the official color for mental health awareness.
Me, tying pretty bows on the llamas in the office to sell later.

This is a powerpoint I created for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) - Coastal Virginia. I designed the slide background, created graphics, and chose the content. Some slides are omitted from the original powerpoint as they contain embedded videos that would look odd on a JPEG. NAMI asked me to create this slideshow to help showcase to community organizations (e.g. police departments, schools, and local businesses) what exactly they do. The powerpoint is designed with a small amount of text as it is designed in a way to allow the presenter to expand on each slide. Enjoy!
